Ethics Policy

MEEN is committed to ethical, transparent, inclusive, and responsible scholarly publishing practices. The journal recognizes that editors, reviewers, authors, publishers, institutions, funders, librarians, science communicators, and policymakers all contribute to maintaining the credibility and reliability of academic knowledge. MEEN follows the ethical frameworks and best-practice guidance established by COPE, ICMJE, and WAME.

Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, animals, personal data, clinical materials, vulnerable communities, or sensitive information must comply with:

  • Institutional ethical standards
  • National and international regulations
  • Data-protection legislation
  • Informed consent requirements
  • Accepted principles of responsible research conduct.

Authors must provide ethics approval information and informed consent statements where applicable.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

MEEN supports fairness, inclusivity, diversity, and non-discrimination in scholarly publishing. The Journal does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or exclusion on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or political or institutional affiliation.

Responsible Communication of Research

Authors, editors, and reviewers must communicate research findings responsibly and accurately. MEEN encourages:

  • Transparent reporting
  • Responsible interpretation of findings
  • Acknowledgment of study limitations
  • Evidence-based conclusions
  • Avoidance of exaggerated or misleading claims.

The Journal recognizes the broader societal impact of misinformation and disinformation and supports responsible scholarly communication that promotes public understanding and trust in research.

Data Transparency and Reproducibility

Authors are encouraged to maintain accurate research records and, where appropriate, make data, methods, and supporting materials available to support reproducibility and transparency. The Journal may request raw data, protocols, analytical code, ethics approvals, or supporting documentation.

Conflicts of Interest

All participants in the publication process must disclose competing interests that could influence objectivity, interpretation, or editorial decision-making. Undisclosed conflicts may constitute ethical misconduct.

Post-Publication Ethics

MEEN is committed to correcting the scholarly record where necessary through corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, and retractions. The journal follows COPE-aligned procedures when addressing post-publication concerns and ethical investigations.
